Artist Statement:
As an educator, it is my goal to help each and every one of my students to unlock their creative side. In my personal art practice, I’ve struggled with feeling accomplished. I’ve dabbled in just about every method and medium there is, always enjoying the process but never being completely happy with the final product. It wasn’t until recently that I decided to just do the part that makes me happy. For decades, I’ve collected objects and materials that have inspired me, and I’ve finally started putting them to use. Call it mixed media if you’d like, but my goal in my art now is to explore. I could start with an object or an idea, I might draw on it or paint over it, experiment with mark making or application techniques, and always prepare to embrace failure. Some pieces come together easily, while others have caused sleeplessness and late night altering. The body of work I find myself creating now is wholly me, from the outside it may seem like it lacks focus, but these objects and materials and processes represent what art means to me.
